What to wear to a boudoir shoot

How to Choose What to Wear to a boudoir shoot

So, you have finally booked that boudoir photoshoot that you’ve been putting off. But now, you’re not sure what to wear to your shoot? Don’t worry, I have gathered all my best information to share with you. Firstly, it can be overwhelming trying to find what to wear. But, when it comes to a boudoir shoot, we all know that the boudoir outfits are one of the most important elements. You should wear something that is comfortable but most importantly, it should make you feel confident and sexy. Ditch any outfits that make you feel frumpy or insecure.

Dressing for Your Body Type- Boudoir Outfit Ideas

First of all, we have the classic bodysuit. They are flattering on just about every body type. For my curvy clients, consider a bodysuit with a bustier style ribbing to accentuate your hourglass figure. Petite boudoir clients should look for a higher cut on the hip. It will make your legs look longer! Bodysuits can vary widely based on if you want long sleeves, a deep v-cut neckline, or a plunging back. I recommend this option to every client!

If you’re looking for something classy, a bra and panty set, silk teddy or white button-down shirt is the way to go. There is something timeless about these options and I think it’s a great way to mix up the vibe.

Lastly, let’s say you want to spice it up a bit. Leather, straps, corsets, and cutouts are a surefire way to achieve that. Adding thigh-high stockings and a garter belt really takes it to the next level.

Boudoir Accessories- Enhancing Your Outfit

Ohhh this part is my favorite! I will always encourage you to bring some items that are special to you. Think outside the box a little and you will love the outcome. I’ve had clients bring everything you can think of. Some common items for example are wigs, a fancy fur coat or gown, gifted jewelry like pearls, or a favorite shirt from your significant others’ closet.

Some clients have brought some pretty unique boudoir props and they all have special meanings. One client brought assless chaps and her husband’s vintage guns. Another brought her mountain bike and a tennis racket. I somehow found a way to make those items just as sexy as the client’s. Just give me a heads-up before your boudoir shoot so that I can brainstorm posing ideas!

Now, this might not be for everyone. But, you can always take it up a notch and bring some handcuffs, ankle cuffs, a blindfold, or a whip. I will happily incorporate anything you bring to your intimate photography session.

Boudoir shoes- Are they a must?

Now that we have covered what to wear for the top half of your body, let’s talk about the lower half. Shoes are not required by any means, however, they are suggested. At least for a couple of photos. If you can’t walk in heels, no problem, I’ll just put you in position first so you don’t have to take one stumbling step.

There is something about a pair of high-heels that is so sexy and powerful. So, bring a pair or two. They can be six-inch stilettos, Mary Janes, kitten heels, or stripper heels! But, if you don’t want to mess with heels, at least bring a pair of shoes that are easy to slide on and off for walking around the studio. They can be a little dirty sometimes.

Where to shop for boudoir clothing online

If you don’t typically wear lingerie, don’t feel pressured to buy it! There is no need to go and spend a bunch of money on things you will only wear once, maybe twice. Instead, take a look in your own closet and see what you might have hiding in the back of the drawer. If you feel super sexy in a loose teeshirt, undies, and a messy bun, then bring it! A big, oversized sweater with fluffy socks is always a cozy classic and I’m sure you have a few to choose from. Maybe, you have a little sundress or skirt that you love.

With that being said, doing a boudoir photoshoot doesn’t happen all that often. So, if you want to buy something new and shiny, then check out my list below. With online shopping, the options for what to wear to a boudoir shoot are endless. These sites have sizing for all and include petite and curvy boudoir outfit options.

If you’re looking for something a little more sexy, edgy, and spicy, I recommend checking out these two. They have a wide variety of leather, strappy and ultra-sexy lingerie.

Sensual Boudoir- Sensual You

Self-love is often pushed to the side and you should be so proud that you’re taking the time to show yourself a little love. At the end of the day, my hope is that you will feel confident, empowered, and sexy! I want you to look at your photos and say, “Damn, I look good!”. A boudoir shoot is all about finding that inner goddess and seeing your body in a new way.

As a boudoir photographer, there is nothing better than seeing you leave the session on a confidence high! Most importantly, whatever your journey looks like, I’m grateful to be a part of it.
